Agartala, 12th May 2025: Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has called for urgent measures to identify and deport Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing in Tripura under false identities. In a statement released on Monday, he urged the Tripura government and the Centre to act decisively, citing concerns over national security.
Debbarma claimed that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have settled in both urban and rural areas, occupying rented houses, slums, and densely populated pockets. He alleged that many have managed to obtain Indian identification documents through political backing and intermediaries.
Following his letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the MLA intensified his campaign, demanding immediate intervention from the Chief Minister, Governor, and Home Ministry. He accused both state and central authorities of ignoring repeated warnings about the issue.
According to Debbarma, illegal migrants have encroached on government land, forest reserves, and areas under the Autonomous District Council (ADC). Some, he warned, might have links to extremist networks, posing a potential security risk.
He cited recent anti-encroachment operations in Delhi, Gujarat, and Assam, calling for similar action in Tripura. The MLA urged an extensive crackdown and political consensus, emphasizing that national interest must prevail over silence and inaction.
