Agartala, 13th May 2025: A disturbing case of domestic violence has rocked the Harihardula Notun Colony area under Madhupur police station of Kamalasagar Assembly constituency. A woman, Kajal Rani Das, was reportedly severely assaulted by her husband Pradip Das and sister-in-law Kalpana Nama over a monetary dispute related to the sale of rubber.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when Kajal was allegedly beaten after she demanded the return of money she had earlier handed over under pressure to her brother-in-law. The attack reportedly turned brutal, with allegations that the husband and sister-in-law attempted to strangle her.
Kajal, who hails from the Radhanagar area and is the daughter of the late Amrit Das, married Pradip Das of Madhya Lakshmibil area in Bishalgarh 16 years back. Although the marriage had the approval of Pradip’s elder sister Kalpana Nama, tensions reportedly arose soon after.
“For the last sixteen years, I have been tortured. Even when I was seven months pregnant, I had to leave my husband’s house because of the beatings. Now, when I tried to ask for the money I earned by selling rubber, they both beat me and tried to kill me,” Kajal said, breaking down in front of reporters.She further alleged, “My sister-in-law never wanted our family to survive. She controls all the money and manipulates my husband against me.”
In a surprising twist, the accused Pradip Das and Kalpana Nama filed a counter-case against Kajal at the Madhupur police station, escalating the tension in the locality. Meanwhile, Kajal has also filed a complaint seeking justice and strict punishment for the accused.Locals have expressed deep concern over the incident, as unrest and anxiety have gripped the neighborhood. The couple has a 12-year-old son, whose future now hangs in uncertainty amidst the escalating domestic conflict.Police are investigating both sides of the case.
