Agartala, 13th May 2025: After months of pursuit, Madhupur police successfully arrested a notorious liquor smuggler early this morning following a covert operation. Acting on a tip-off, Madhupur Police Station Officer Tapan Debnath intercepted a vehicle traveling from Agartala to Kamalasagar seizing foreign liquor worth Rs 25,000 and arresting the prime suspect identified as Priya Ranjan Das alias Ripon.
Das, a resident of Debipur Rajar Tilla had long evaded capture despite being a known figure in illegal liquor distribution. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered three cartons containing 64 different brands of foreign liquor. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and brought to Madhupur police station for further proceedings.Residents of Debipur Rajar Tilla and Miapara expressed relief over the arrest, citing years of distress caused by Das’ illicit activities. Allegations had surfaced regarding his continued smuggling operations despite tightened security along the Bangladesh border. Local communities commended the police for their vigilance in cracking down on illegal trade.
