Agartala: November 11. State government has taken up a project to promote fish farming in cages in Dumboor reservoir and other major reservoirs of the state with the financial support of NABARD.
Addressing a press conference Principal Secretary of Fisheries Department BS Mishra said, “With the financial support of NABARD, the Department of Fisheries has taken up a project to promote fish farming in cages in Dumboor reservoir and other major reservoirs of the state. 1760 fish cages will be cultivated in this project. Out of which 1500 cage dams will be set up. Already 1080 cages have been installed and will be inaugurated soon”.
He said 50,240 fish farmers families in the state have been brought under the Chief Minister’s Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana for the financial year 2022-23. “Rs 4. 10 crore have been sanctioned for the implementation of this project in the current financial year. Under the Chief Minister’s Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana Yojana has a target of providing 500 fingerlings and one-day training to a total of 150,000 fish farming families each year. 2,575 fishermen of Scheduled Caste communities will be provided assistance in the financial year 2022-23 under the PM Anusuchit Jati abhyudaya Yojana. The scheme has already been launched as a part of the State Government’s good Governance programme”, he said.He also said fish seedlings have also been distributed to self-help groups and assistance will be provided to 1000 scheduled caste fishermen for restoration and renovation of old reservoirs. “Assistance will be provided to 300 scheduled fish farmers for fish farming under biofloc system. In this case, each beneficiary will be given 10 thousand rupees”, he informed.
