Forest department’s aid program aims to boost self-reliance among beneficiaries

Agartala, 16th May 2025:  A significant initiative under the IGDC project was launched by the Forest Department at Ambassa Town Hall today aimed at empowering beneficiaries with various forms of assistance to foster self-reliance. The event was inaugurated by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who ceremoniously lit the lamp.

Addressing the gathering, the Forest Minister emphasized the need for responsible forest conservation, stating, “Indiscriminate destruction of forests will not be tolerated. We must unite against those harming the environment. Through this initiative, we are encouraging people to choose the right path and providing them with resources to secure their livelihoods.”

The program primarily targets 129 Gram Panchayat/Village Committee areas across Dhalai and Uttar districts, with a focus on socio-economic upliftment. A diverse range of aid was distributed, including yarn for 400 beneficiaries, blankets for 350 individuals and sports equipment for several youths. Additionally, five self-help groups received financial assistance Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh loans, respectively to support their ventures. To streamline the program’s implementation, 125 workers were provided with tablets for accounting and administrative tasks.

The event witnessed an enthusiastic response, with notable dignitaries in attendance, including Dhalai Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Sushmita Das, BAC Chairman Parimal Debbarma, Forest Department Officer S. Prabhu and Dhalai District DFO Amit Debbarma.
