Agartala, 16th May 2025:  Residents of Birchandranagar Gram Panchayat under Kailashahar Police Station staged a road blockade today in protest against a four-day-long electricity outage that has severely impacted daily life. Despite repeated complaints lodged with Kailashahar’s private power company, Sai Computer Limited, no resolution had been provided, pushing locals to take matters into their own hands.

The prolonged blackout has led to an acute drinking water shortage in the area, further exacerbating difficulties. In response, frustrated residents gathered early in the day, obstructing a key road to draw attention to their plight. As the protest intensified, traffic came to a standstill on both sides of the blockade, leaving commuters stranded for hours.

“We have been pleading for the restoration of electricity for days, but our cries have gone unheard,” said a local resident involved in the protest. “Without power, we can’t even access clean water. How are we supposed to survive? he asked.

The demonstration prompted swift intervention from local officials. The head of the Gram Panchayat, along with the deputy head, arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters. After listening to their concerns, they assured the crowd that the matter would be addressed urgently.

“We understand the gravity of the situation and assure the residents that we will take this issue up with the concerned authorities immediately,” stated the Gram Panchayat Pradhan.

Following these assurances, the residents dispersed, clearing the blockade and allowing traffic to resume. However, the locals remain vigilant, warning that if swift action is not taken, stronger protests may follow.

Authorities are expected to engage with Sai Computer Limited to resolve the crisis and prevent further disruptions in the area.
