Agartala, 16th May 2025: Concerned over the alleged disturbances caused by a liquor counter situated a mile from their school premises, students in the Jolaibari assembly constituency have taken their grievances to the media, demanding its relocation.
The constituency hosts three reputable schools, with students excelling academically and pursuing careers as doctors, engineers, and lawyers. However, complaints have surfaced regarding the negative impact of the liquor counter on the school environment. Allegations include drug addicts harassing students, discarding empty liquor bottles within school grounds, and creating an atmosphere detrimental to education.
Despite repeated appeals to administrative officials, no action has been taken, prompting students—alongside social worker Satyajit Biswas—to make a public demand for change. “We are not asking for the counter to be shut down, but it must be relocated to ensure a safe environment for students,” said Biswas. “If authorities fail to act, we will escalate our movement in the coming days.”
Local residents have echoed this sentiment, calling for the state government to address the issue. “The counter operates legally, but placing it near educational institutions is irresponsible,” remarked a concerned parent.
