Agartala, 16th May 2025: In a small house in Dakshin Charilam No. 4 Colony, a father dreams of his daughter receiving higher education. However, financial hardship threatens to turn that dream into an unattainable goal.
Mukta Debnath, a bright student from Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Charilam Vidyajyoti School has passed her CBSE Class 12 board exams with 350 marks securing a first-division result. Despite her academic success, she faces an uncertain future due to her family’s dire financial situation.
Her father Bhaba Ranjan Debnath lost a leg in a tragic accident in 2006 but never abandoned hope. Working as a tailor, he operates a sewing machine with his remaining leg struggling to earn a living from a small rented shop in Charilam’s old market. His wife Rinku Debnath supports the family by tying bidis determined to help fund their daughter’s education.
“We are doing everything possible, but it is not enough. Everyone wears ready-made clothes now. Hardly anyone comes to tailors anymore. I don’t know how I will send my daughter to college,” said Bhaba Ranjan Debnath.
Despite financial difficulties, Mukta remains dedicated to her studies. She excelled in geography, scoring 84 marks, and dreams of becoming a teacher to support her parents and uplift her community. However, financial constraints are becoming a formidable obstacle in her pursuit of higher education.
This morning, Mukta and her parents publicly appealed to the government for assistance. “I want to study further and stand by my parents. But without financial support, my dreams may remain unfulfilled,” Mukta stated.
Her father expressed hope that with government aid, Mukta could continue her studies. Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had previously assisted Bhaba Ranjan with an artificial leg, but the family still struggles to make ends meet.
Mukta’s success has garnered admiration from her community. Charilam Mandal President Tapas Das has expressed interest in supporting her. Friends, neighbors, and relatives believe that if society comes forward to help, Mukta’s dream of higher education will become a reality.
