PM inaugurates Kashi Tamil Sangamam

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Kashi Tamil Sangamam here to celebrate, reaffirm and rediscover the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi – two of the country’s most important and ancient seats of learning.

The month-long programme aims to provide an opportunity for people from all walks of life including scholars, students, philosophers, traders, artisans, artists etc. from the two regions to come together, share their knowledge, culture and best practices and learn from each others’ experience.

More than 2500 delegates from Tamil Nadu are visiting Kashi. They will participate in seminars, site visits etc to interact with local people of similar trade, profession and interest.

“Curious to attending the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event in Varanasi. It will be such a grand and historic occasion, which will see a wonderful confluence of India’s cultural connect and the beauty of Tamil language,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

“Under the guidance of Respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Kashi Tamil Sangamam organized in Varanasi, the holy city of Baba Shri Vishwanath, is a sacred festival of Sanatan culture and human civilization. It is not just an event, but also a union of two Indian traditions and civilizations,” said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a tweet.

During the programme, a month long exhibition of handlooms, handicrafts, ODOP products, books, documentaries, cuisine, art forms, history, tourist places etc. of the two regions will also be put up in Kashi.

The endeavour is in sync with National Education Policy 2020’s emphasis on integrating the wealth of Indian Knowledge Systems with modern systems of knowledge, the PMO said.

IIT Madras and BHU are the two implementing agencies for the programme.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
