Road woes at Duganga: Residents Struggle amid monsoon mudslides

Date:

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 28th May 2025:  A newly constructed culvert in the hilly village of Duganga under Panisagar subdivision has led to severe road conditions, leaving thousands of residents stranded in muddy terrain. The road, a crucial lifeline connecting Duganga to Jalabasa Bazar and Sardasari Indurail via the Assam-Agartala National Highway has become nearly impassable due to accumulated mud exacerbated by the ongoing monsoon.

Local residents report that the contractor responsible for the culvert construction merely filled soil on both sides of the structure before concluding work. With persistent rains, the loosely packed soil has turned into sludge, obstructing both vehicular and pedestrian movement. The issue has sparked concerns, especially among auto-rickshaw drivers who rely on the road for their livelihood. Additionally, the deteriorating condition poses a serious risk in emergencies, as patients—including pregnant women—now faces a 10 to 15-kilometer journey to the Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Despite witnessing the worsening state of the road, local leaders have yet to take action, residents allege. Frustration is mounting among the tribal communities residing in Padmabil, Barar Bazar, Indurail, Duganga and Bil Basti. The road, essential for daily commutes and market visits, has become a significant barrier for the locals, particularly those traveling to Jalabasa Bazar.
