Agartala, 2nd June 2025:  The flood situation in Tripura is gradually improving as the state experiences a lull in heavy rainfall and river levels have started to recede below the critical threshold.

Officials said that the absence of significant rainfall overnight has helped stabilize conditions. “Last night, additional relief camps were set up as floodwaters entered more homes, forcing families to seek shelter. Thankfully, the situation is now easing, and we expect further improvement by tomorrow,” he said. According to the Disaster Management Department, active monsoon conditions along with increased moisture brought heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state between May 31 and June 2. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Khowai, West Tripura, and South Tripura districts, while the remaining five districts are under a Yellow Alert until 8:30 AM tomorrow.

Currently, 66 relief camps are operational across the state, housing 2,926 families—totaling 10,813 individuals. West Tripura district has the highest number of shelters, with 50 camps accommodating 2,352 families.

Damage assessments reveal that 219 houses have been affected—one fully damaged, 104 severely, and 124 partly damaged—mainly in Gomati, Khowai, Sepahijala, South Tripura, and North Tripura districts. Assessments are ongoing to gauge the full extent of the impact. The water level in the Howrah River near Agartala has dropped significantly over the past 24 hours and is now below the danger mark. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with regular reviews at the highest levels to ensure timely response and assistance.
