Cremation services resume at Battala Crematorium after rain disruption: Mayor

Agartala, 2nd June 2025:  After two days of disruption caused by continuous heavy rainfall, cremation services at Battala crematorium in Agartala which is largest in the state have resumed normal operations from Monday.

gartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumdar confirmed the restoration of services during an inspection visit to the crematorium earlier today.Speaking to the media, Mayor Majumdar said that cremation work had come to a halt on Saturday and Sunday due to the adverse weather conditions and waterlogging, which had affected both the gas and electric furnaces. “The crematorium services were severely impacted due to natural calamity and continuous rains. However, from Monday onwards, all operations have been restored,” he said.

Accompanied by senior AMC officials, the mayor reviewed the condition of the facility and ensured that all technical faults were addressed. He informed that both gas and electric furnaces are now functional and cremation work is being carried out without hindrance.Mayor Majumdar also reassured the public that necessary measures have been taken to prevent such disruptions in the future. “The situation is completely normal now, and we are committed to ensuring uninterrupted cremation services for the public,” he added.
