Assam-Agartala alternative national highway turns into a hazard, traders urge CM’s intervention

Agartala, 4th June 2025:  The Assam-Agartala alternative national highway connecting Assam through Premtala Bazar in Ward No. 5 of Baghan Gram Panchayat has become a major concern for commuters and traders alike. Despite its significance in daily transportation, the road has remained in a deplorable state for years, causing hardship to locals and affecting businesses in the region.

Hundreds of people and passenger vehicles rely on this route every day, yet the concerned department has failed to take corrective action. Traders claim that repeated appeals to Panchayat Pradhan and Kadamtala Block Chairman Mihir Kanti Nath have gone unheard. As a result, businesses have suffered losses due to a decline in customer footfall.

Expressing frustration over the deteriorating condition, a local businessman said, “Every day, buyers hesitate to come because of the dust, mud, and potholes. The situation is worsening as dirty water from the road flows into nearby ponds, ruining fish stocks and water resources. This affects not just individual livelihoods but also government-backed fisheries.”

The issue has highlighted growing discontent regarding governance at the local level. While the government has actively promoted agricultural progress, traders argue that infrastructural negligence contradicts those efforts. “The government wants ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ but local representatives are failing to bridge the gap between policies and ground realities,” a resident stated.

Amid these grievances, the affected community has issued a call for Chief Minister’s intervention through media channels, warning that if authorities continue to ignore their plight, they will resort to protests. Locals demand immediate road repairs, fearing further disruptions to business, agriculture, and daily life.
