Agartala, 4th June 2025: A day after a driver was reportedly lynched by an angry mob inside a tea garden in Unakoti district, Tripura Police have detained 13 individuals for questioning in connection with the incident.
According to a senior police official who requested anonymity, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Kalishasan Tea Garden area. A vehicle struck a tea garden worker, which sparked outrage among the local residents. In retaliation, the driver, identified as 35-year-old Pradip Das, was attacked by the mob and beaten to death.
The injured tea garden worker sustained serious injuries, including a fractured leg.Following the incident, Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Sudhamvika R., Additional SP V. Darlong, and SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, along with a substantial police and TSR force, were deployed to the area to prevent further violence and maintain peace.
“Thirteen individuals have been detained as part of the ongoing investigation,” the official said. They were brought to Kailashahar police station for interrogation.Pradip Das’s body was recovered approximately one kilometre from the accident site. A thorough investigation is underway.
