Agartala, 5th June 2025 :  Residents of Ward No. 3 in Khedabari Gram Panchayat under Nalchhar Block of Sonamura Police Station locked the main gate of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) today demanding urgent road renovations.

Villagers claim that during an ONGC development project, the road in their locality deteriorated significantly. Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, no action was taken, prompting them to escalate their protest.

A newly appointed ONGC official reportedly informed the villagers that previous memorandums submitted regarding their grievances were missing. He assured them that efforts would be made to locate the documents and raise the matter with higher authorities to expedite a resolution.

Setting a firm ultimatum, villagers declared that if the road is not repaired in the coming days, ONGC vehicles will no longer be allowed to operate within Khedabari Gram Panchayat. They expressed determination to continue their protest, stating that even potential legal consequences would not deter them from pressing for their demands.

Authorities have yet to respond formally to the villagers’ ultimatum. The situation remains tense as locals await action on their longstanding concerns.
