Agartala, 10th June 2025: In a tragic incident, a daily wage labourer from Arakata village under Mohanpur sub-division in West Tripura district lost his life after being struck by lightning late Monday night.
The victim, identified as Manoj Das, was returning home from work in Agartala when a sudden lightning strike hit him near the Arakata-Kalagachhia Bazar road. The impact was so powerful that it left a significant crack in the road and hurled both Manoj and his bicycle into a nearby paddy field.
According to sources, local residents discovered Manoj unconscious around 8 PM and immediately rushed him to the Mohanpur Sub-divisional Health Centre. Given the severity of his injuries, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Manoj succumbed to his injuries at around 1:20 AM on Tuesday.
Manoj Das was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife, a young son, and a daughter, who are now grappling with immense grief and uncertainty about their future.
