Agartala, 12th June 2025: Uran, a prominent social and cultural organisation in Tripura, has strongly condemned the recent act of vandalism at the ancestral home of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore—’Kchari Bari’—located in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj district of Bangladesh.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary Dr. Ranbir Roy, Uran described the attack, which took place on Sunday (June 8), as “barbaric and shameful.” A group of unruly locals reportedly vandalized parts of the historic site, injuring an official in the process. Uran has expressed deep concern over the incident and called for immediate action to prevent such acts in the future.
“Rabindranath Tagore is a treasure not only of India and Bangladesh, but of the entire world. His literature, music, and social philosophy are intertwined with the existence of Bengal and the Bengali people,” the statement read. “Such behaviour at a site bearing his memory is utterly condemnable.”
Uran urged the authorities in Bangladesh to ensure strict punishment for those involved and appealed to the public to protect cultural and historical heritage sites.
The organisation also extended its condolences to the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. “We pray for eternal peace for the departed souls and express our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Dr. Roy said.
