Agartala, 12th June 2025:  Former Tripura Chief Minister and incumbent Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has strongly condemned the vandalism of Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home Kacharibari and the Rabindra Museum in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, Bangladesh. Taking to his official Facebook handle on Thursday, Deb expressed outrage over the incident, calling it “a dark chapter in the history of the country’s cultural consciousness.”

“This heinous attack on the place intertwined with the memory of Rabindranath Tagore, the creator of the nation’s anthem, is deeply alarming,” Deb stated. He criticized the “crazy, violent, and vengeful people” behind the attack, remarking that such incidents “are continuously embarrassing the nation in front of the world and pushing the country towards destruction.”

Deb further decried the rising intolerance and hostility in Bangladesh, particularly towards minorities. “The mischief of the rioters in the changing circumstances of Bangladesh is extremely shameful towards the mother nation, its birth mother, religious intolerance, and hatred of minorities. Every day, a black chapter is being written. History is being made,” he wrote.

Expressing his firm stance against such acts, Deb concluded, “I strongly condemn and deplore this incident.”

The attack on Kacharibari has sparked concern among cultural and literary circles, with many urging immediate action to protect historical sites linked to Tagore’s legacy.
