Agartala, 14th June 2025:   Tension gripped in the South Kadamtala area Ward No. 6 of Kadamtala block, located in North Tripura district on Friday. The incident centers around the cutting of an agarwood tree in broad daylight from a religious site—a shrine (majar) by accused Jubair Ahmed. Police investigations are underway, with cases and counter-cases filed at the police station.

It is reported that, Jubair Ahmed (52), a resident of Ward No. 1 of Fulbari Gram Panchayat, went to the shrine yesterday afternoon accompanied by two men. They were cutting down a large agarwood tree when the shrine committee and local residents noticed and intervened.

Locals claim that Jubair, along with Nazrul Islam and Halim Uddin, were trying to steal the tree. As a result, the three were apprehended by locals. Tension escalated when Jubair’s supporters arrived, leading to a heated altercation between the two groups. Police were informed, who arrived at the scene, rescuing the trio and taking them into custody.

Due to the significant size of the agarwood tree, the police could not transport it to the station. Instead, the tree was temporarily entrusted to the local organization Jolaibari Yuva Sankalp Club. The accused were taken to Kadamtala police station for further inquiry.

Meanwhile, Jubair Ahmed claims the tree was located on ancestral land, which legally belongs to him and other family members. He asserts that several of the co-owners have sold their shares to him, and he possesses all legal documents including agreements and registered deeds.

According to him, he had only hired the two accompanying individuals for labor to cut the tree from his land in broad daylight. He accuses some agarwood traders and club members of falsely branding him a thief in order to serve their own interests. He appealed to the police to conduct a proper investigation and ensure the return of the tree.
