Anti-child labor drive held at Sabroom Bazar, authorities vow stricter action

Agartala, 23rd June 2025:   In a firm step towards enforcing child labor laws, the Sub-Divisional Labor Department in collaboration with the South District Police launched a special awareness and enforcement campaign at Sabroom Bazar this afternoon. The operation was jointly led by Labor department officer Amit Kar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) O. Manna Chowdhury accompanied by a team of officials and police personnel.

The campaign aimed to detect instances of child labor in shops, hotels, and other local establishments while educating business owners about legal obligations. Teams conducted thorough inspections across several commercial units and interacted directly with proprietors to gather information.

“Such campaigns are very important to protect the natural childhood and right to education of children. “We are making shopkeepers aware, and strict legal action will be taken if child laborers are found,” said Amit Kar while addressing media personnel here.Echoing the department’s resolve, DCP O. Manna Chowdhury stated, “The district administration is determined to take strict action in this regard. No trader will be spared if he violates the child labor law. Today’s drive is only the beginning—we will intensify these efforts going forward.”

Although no arrests were made during the operation, several shop owners received formal warnings. Officials indicated that such campaigns will be carried out regularly to curb the employment of children in commercial activities.

Residents of Sabroom Bazar have expressed appreciation for the initiative, recognizing it as a necessary step towards securing children’s rights and reinforcing community responsibility.
