Agartala, 23rd June 2025: The financial turmoil plaguing the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has taken a serious toll on its retired employees, with pensioners now threatening agitation over an unresolved 19-month pension freeze.
Despite multiple appeals and deputations over the past year and a half, the crisis remains unaddressed, leaving thousands of families in acute distress. On Monday, members of the TTAADC Employees’ Pensioners’ Association submitted another deputation to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Council, expressing deep frustration over the prolonged non-payment of pensions.
“Nearly 19 months have passed without a single pension disbursement. Many of us are unable to afford basic essentials. Our families are suffering, and we are nearing starvation,” said the Association’s president.
The pensioners have warned that if their dues are not cleared by July 10, they will be forced to launch a larger, statewide agitation.Alleging gross financial mismanagement within the TTAADC, the association members said that although the state government has released funds, the current administration under Tipra Motha has failed to ensure disciplined spending. According to them, after active employees’ salaries are paid, no funds remain for retired staff.
In a heartbreaking appeal, one pensioner said, “If the administration can’t pay our dues, they should at least transfer Rs 1,000 to our accounts. We will use that money to buy pesticides and end our lives with our families.”The pensioners also came down heavily on the leadership of Tipra Motha, accusing it of apathy. “The Supremo of Tipra Motha is reportedly unwell and surviving only on milk and rice, but seems utterly detached from our plight. We keep receiving empty promises—no concrete action,” lamented another aggrieved retiree. With the crisis deepening and public pressure mounting, the TTAADC administration is likely to face intensified scrutiny in the coming days.
