Agartala, 24th June 2025: Tripura has been declared the third fully literate state in the country, a milestone that BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharya hailed as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developmental vision.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Bhattacharya credited the achievement to the tireless efforts of volunteers and educators under the Ullas–Nav Bharat Literacy Program, while strongly criticising past Congress governments for decades of neglect towards the Northeastern region.
“Since independence, the Congress government systematically neglected the Northeast—be it communication, infrastructure, or economic development,” Bhattacharya alleged. “No Prime Minister from other parties even visited this region during their tenure. It is only under Prime Minister Narendra Modi that we have seen relentless efforts to bridge this gap.”
Bhattacharya described the ongoing literacy drive as part of Modi’s broader mission to create a “Viksit Bharat” and a “Viksit Tripura.” He expressed gratitude to literacy volunteers, teachers, and students who contributed without remuneration to educate citizens above the age of 15. “They are our literacy soldiers,” he said. “Their selfless service has brought honour to our state.”
Highlighting broader progress, he added, “India is now moving in sync with global standards—not just in general education, but also in mathematics, banking, and digital literacy.”
Bhattacharya also extended his thanks to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for his continued support in implementing the Centre’s schemes effectively in the state.
