Agartala, 25th June 2025: Marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency period imposed in 1975, a seminar was held at Sonamura Town Hall today to reflect on the historical episode and its implications for constitutional democracy. Organized by the BJP Sepahijala (South) District committee, the event drew participation from students, party workers and local members.
Speaking at the seminar, BJP State General Secretary Amit Rakshit emphasized the importance of remembering the Emergency as a cautionary chapter in Indian political history. “At one time, the Constitution was held hostage. The government then was eager to alter its structure, and citizens were denied the opportunity to learn about their fundamental rights,” Rakshit stated. He warned that forgetting such times could allow history to repeat itself.
Addressing students in attendance, Rakshit encouraged youth engagement with democratic principles through historical awareness. “We must remain alert and informed about how far our nation has come. Knowing our past is key to protecting our future,” he added.
The event also featured remarks by BJP Sepahijala (South) District President Uttam Das, Seminar Convener Supank Sarkar and Minority Morcha State President Billal Mia.
Students from various local schools actively participated contributing to a dialogue that organizers hope will strengthen democratic consciousness among the next generation.
