Agartala, 1st July 2025:   Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Asish Saha on Tuesday urged the Director General of Police (DGP), Tripura, to initiate an impartial investigation into the murder of Ashish Das of Chhota Surma in Dhalai district by constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior IPS officer.

In a letter addressed to DGP Anurag, the TPCC chief referred to the “sensational murder” of Ashish Das, whose body was recovered on June 17, 2025, near a brick kiln reportedly owned by one Souvik Das.

“Yesterday, I visited the residence of the deceased Ashish Das and met his parents—Sri Chittaranjan Das and Smt. Angur Bala Das—along with many local residents. The grieving family and local people strongly believe that the murder was carried out by politically influential land mafias. They are demanding justice for the bereaved family and exemplary punishment for the culprits,” Saha stated.

He further alleged that there are serious claims regarding the involvement of the husband of a local MLA, who is suspected to be in collusion with the accused.

“In light of the above, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee demands a fair and independent investigation into the case by constituting a Special Investigation Team under the leadership of a senior IPS officer,” Saha added in the letter.
