Agartala, 1st July 2025:  A gang of thieves allegedly broke into the KK Nagar Muslim Para Anganwadi Kendra late last night stealing two gas cylinders used for mid-day meals. The incident came to light this morning when school helper Peyara Begum found the centre’s lock broken. She promptly informed teacher Bhabani De, who filed a complaint with Bishalgarh police station.

Local residents suspect drug-addicted youths are behind the theft and urged the police to identify and interrogate the culprits to recover the stolen items.

Meanwhile, tension gripped Bilthai under Panisagar subdivision as two consecutive thefts within three days rattled the community raising serious questions over local policing.

In the latest incident reported this morning, thieves broke into the home of Sanjit Debnath, located near Bilthai Bazar in Ward No. 2. The perpetrators allegedly entered through the kitchen window while the family was asleep and stole gold ornaments, cash, and even raided food from the kitchen.

Sanjit, who was unwell and resting in the kitchen found the theft around 7 am. The miscreants reportedly stole valuables worth approximately Rs 1 lakh, sparing only his mobile phone. Oddly, the thieves also ate from the kitchen before fleeing.

This mirrors a similar burglary just days earlier at a local businessman’s residence in the same locality, where cash and two mobile phones were looted.

Residents are outraged at what they call “inaction” by the Panisagar police despite being handed the name of a potential suspect.
