Hollywood actors Halle Berry and Adrien Brody recreated their infamous 2003 Oscar kiss on the red carpet at the 2025 Academy Awards held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The actress Berry, 58, shared a video of the encounter on Instagram, “Surpriseee @adrienbrody!! I had to get some playback.”
The official Academy Awards Instagram account also captured the moment, showing Berry approaching Brody with her arms open before pulling him in for a dramatic kiss. The two then shared a warm hug, visibly amused by the unexpected reenactment, as per a report by PEOPLE.
This unexpected gesture revisited one of the Oscars’ most talked-about moments. In 2003, Brody, after winning Best Actor for “The Pianist”, unexpectedly kissed Berry, who was presenting the award on stage. Berry had no prior knowledge of the gesture and later admitted she was completely caught off guard. “I was like, ‘What the f— is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind,” she recalled in a 2017 interview.
In a recent interview with Variety, Brody, now 51, addressed the evolving conversation around the moment, saying, “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing. And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
Despite the scrutiny, Berry and Brody have maintained a friendly relationship. When Brody won a Golden Globe in January for his role in “The Brutalist”, Berry was among the first to congratulate him publicly, calling him “Congratulations my friend. You are truly one of one!”
