Agartala, 22nd August 2026 : Tension prevailed in Khumulwng on Saturday after unidentified miscreants allegedly vandalised the BJP office in broad daylight, damaging several vehicles parked inside the premises. The incident comes at a politically sensitive time, with Village Committee elections approaching and differences reportedly emerging between the BJP and its coalition partner, Tipra Motha.
According to reports, a group of miscreants entered the BJP office premises and allegedly damaged 12 motorcycles and two cars. The sudden incident triggered panic among local residents and heightened political tensions in the ADC headquarters area. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, the incident has sparked speculation in political circles, with some allegations pointing towards suspected involvement of Tipra Motha supporters. There has been no official confirmation of such involvement, and police are investigating the matter.
Security was subsequently intensified across Khumulwng, with additional personnel deployed to prevent any further incidents. Police and the administration are maintaining a close watch on the area while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The BJP office has reportedly been targeted in similar incidents in the past, making the latest vandalism a matter of concern for the party and local administration. The timing of the incident has also raised questions, particularly in view of the forthcoming Village Committee elections.
The episode has once again brought the reported political differences between the two ruling coalition partners into focus. While the attack has fuelled speculation about a possible political connection, authorities are yet to establish any direct link.
No arrests had been reported till Saturday evening. Security forces continued to remain deployed in the area, while the administration appealed for calm and urged people not to spread unverified information.
