Agartala, 1st April 2026: At least 15 personnel from the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles were injured after alleged supporters of the Tipra Motha Party attacked vehicles belonging to BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb and party candidate Ananta Debbarma.
The incident took place in the Anandabazar area of West Lambuchara, under Kamalpur subdivision in Dhalai district, when the BJP leaders were returning from a door-to-door campaign for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled for April 12.
According to a senior police official, the attack occurred suddenly as Tipra Motha supporters allegedly pelted stones and used iron rods, damaging the MLA’s vehicle along with two other vehicles used by the candidate. Despite the attack, the group managed to move toward the Manikbhander area.
During the chaos, some BJP supporters reportedly came out in response, and one individual was injured.To bring the situation under control, security forces used tear gas and carried out a lathi charge. However, clashes continued, resulting in injuries to 15 police and TSR personnel, all of whom were later taken to a hospital for treatment.Authorities have since deployed additional security forces in the area to maintain law and order.
