Agartala, 22nd October 2025:  Allegations of a forced marriage involving a 16-year-old girl have triggered widespread concern in the Madhupur area. While the prime accused remains absconding, police have arrested his mother in connection with the case, prompting alarm among child protection activists.

The incident came to light following a joint operation led by Bishalgarh DCM Prasenjit Das, involving officials from Childline and Madhupur police station. According to the complaint, a local youth allegedly abducted the minor and forcibly married her. The girl’s family filed a formal complaint immediately after learning of the incident.

Police confirmed that the accused youth is currently on the run. However, based on preliminary investigation, his mother has been taken into custody.

Childline representatives emphasized that marriage involving girls under the age of 18 is a legal offense under Indian law. “This case is a clear violation of child protection legislation,” a spokesperson stated, urging swift action to ensure justice and prevent further exploitation.
