Agartala, 10th October 2026 : Tripura is advancing a series of infrastructure and livelihood projects worth a combined ₹165.52 crore, including the ₹14.52-crore redevelopment of the Pechar-dahar waterbody in Bilaspur Gram Panchayat under the Fatikroy Assembly constituency in Unakoti district. The broader development push also includes a ₹34-crore waterbody project at Rajnagar, a ₹38-crore modern market at Maharajganj Bazar, an ₹8.5-crore training centre-cum-guest house near Fatikroy and a ₹100-crore integrated aqua park at Birchandranagar.
Laying the foundation stone for the Pechar-dahar project on Saturday, Tripura’s SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das said the initiative would transform the neglected waterbody into a recreational and tourism destination while generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local residents.
Das said the surrounding bamboo thickets and overgrown vegetation had been cleared, and cleaning work had already started with bulldozers deployed at the site.
The project will feature an entrance gate, ticket counter, open-air gym, children’s park, administrative building, toilet facilities, hanging bridge, art gallery, landscaped walkways, seating pavilions, cultural stage and street lighting. Plantation and boating facilities are also planned to enhance the area’s appeal.
“My vision is for this waterbody to become a hub that secures stable, long-term livelihoods for at least 150 to 200 families from Bilaspur and the Pechardor-Bolehar neighbourhoods,” Das said. He added that fish farming activities would be restored and local fishing communities involved in managing operations, with the fisheries component expected to support at least 100 families.
Located around 500 metres from Sarada Singhi Math, popularly known as the Balaji Temple, the site is expected to complement tourism at Unakoti by offering visitors additional recreational options. Das said the government aimed to complete the project before January 2028.
Highlighting other initiatives, the minister said ₹34 crore had been sanctioned for a waterbody project at Batisha Depa in Rajnagar, while ₹100 crore had been sanctioned for an integrated aqua park at Birchandranagar, of which ₹43 crore had been received. The aqua park is expected to benefit around 300 to 400 people.
Das also highlighted welfare initiatives introduced since 2023, including annual assistance of ₹6,000 for fish farmers, livestock-loss compensation of up to ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 assistance for eligible Scheduled Caste beneficiaries to establish or expand small businesses.
He said the government had also introduced financial support for SC students pursuing medical education.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha, the primary objective of this government is to reach the last person in the queue,” Das said, asserting that development and public welfare remained the government’s priorities.
