Agartala, 21st June 2025:  In a move aimed at supporting the families of political violence victims, the Tripura government has provided government jobs to 18 next-of-kin based on applications received from bereaved families, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Secretariat, Nath stated, “So far, 18 families have been given government jobs on compassionate grounds. The government remains committed to standing beside those who lost their loved ones in political violence up to the year 2018.”

He revealed that a total of 39 applications have been submitted seeking government employment from the families of those killed in political unrest. “Eight more applications have been received recently,” he added, noting that the scrutiny process is underway.

To oversee these applications, the state has constituted the Scrutiny Committee for Scrutiny of Applications Received for Providing Employment to Members of Family of Persons Kindred in Political Violence, with Nath himself serving as chairman. The committee convened on June 19 to review the latest submissions.

“This initiative reflects our respect for democratic values and the sacrifices made. From 1983 to 2018, many lives were lost due to political violence, and this decision is a step toward extending meaningful support to the affected families,” the minister said.

He further informed that the scrutiny committee will submit its report to the state government after thoroughly examining the new applications.
