Agartala, November 18, 2022: A two-day long special cultural evening is going to be held on folk music at Vivekananda Swardha Satabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar with the initiative of Kala Mandal.
After imparting special training to 40 students at Kala Mandal’s home from November 15 to 19, Kala Mandal of Dharmanagar organizing a special program in folk style in the evening of November 19 and 20 next.
Speaking to media persons at Dharmanagar Press Club, Kala Mandal principal Santosh Sutradhar said that in the year 1992, the circle workshop was started with Dhamail for the first time in Dharmanagar at the initiative of Mukundalal Bhattacharya. The workshop was based on Shyam’s Banshi folk dance of 30 years back. He included traditional folk songs in the syllabus of Bhat Khande of Lucknow. After 30 years, the event is going to be held at Vivekananda Swardha Satabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar on the evening of November 19 after a four-day workshop organized by Soumitra Shankar Chowdhury, the grandson of his niece, and with the support of Kala Mandal’s Jaba Ghosh, he added.
Sutradhar also said “In this event, 13 ‘parvans’ in twelve months of Bengalis will be displayed. A delegation of five people from Sunamganj of Sylhet, neighboring country of Bangladesh will display their art in this event.”Jubarajnagar MLA Malina Debnath will be present as the inaugural function and Uttar Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Bhabatosh Das will be present as the chief guest. Kala Mandal has informed that the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs of the Government of India is giving special importance to folk dance and has come forward with financial assistance. Notably, there is no entry fee for the visitors in this two-day event and the Vivekananda Swardha Satabarshiki Bhavan will be open to all.
