Agartala, 16th September 2026 : Candidates who qualified the 2024 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) have demanded that the Tripura government initiate their recruitment process without further delay, citing prolonged uncertainty over their appointments.
Addressing a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, the successful candidates said the TET was conducted in 2024, but recruitment of the qualified candidates has still not been completed. They claimed that around 40,000 candidates appeared for the examination, while only about 1,800 candidates qualified.
The candidates questioned why the recruitment process had not been expedited despite the relatively small number of successful candidates. They also highlighted what they described as a shortage of teachers in government schools, particularly in rural and remote areas.
According to the candidates, while some schools in urban areas have comparatively adequate teaching staff, several institutions in remote parts of the state continue to face vacancies. They claimed that the shortage is affecting classroom teaching and students’ academic progress.
The candidates also voiced dissatisfaction over the government’s response to their repeated appeals. They said they had earlier approached former Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath seeking intervention and had also expected action from Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha.
The TET qualifiers warned that they would intensify their agitation if the government failed to address their demands. They announced plans to stage a protest in front of the Chief Minister’s residence on September 24 if immediate steps are not taken.
Their key demands include the immediate recruitment of all eligible 2024 TET qualifiers and effective measures to fill vacant teaching posts across government schools.
The candidates urged the state government to consider the issue seriously and complete the recruitment process at the earliest.
