Agartala, 4th March 2024: In a recent development in Sonamura sub-division of Tripura’s Sepahijala district, a case has been filed against an individual accused of duping 21 unemployed youths out of significant sums of money by promising them lucrative job opportunities abroad. Tripura Police sources have confirmed the incident and reported that the case was registered at the Sonamura police station against Saiful Islam, the alleged mastermind behind the scam.
According to sources, Saiful Islam orchestrated a fraudulent scheme, preying on desperate job seekers by offering false promises of overseas employment. The victims, hopeful for better opportunities, paid substantial amounts to the accused for services such as passports, visas, flight tickets, and medical fitness certifications. However, upon closer inspection, it was revealed that all the provided documents were counterfeit.
The scam unraveled when the deceived youths, anticipating their journeys abroad, arrived at Agartala’s MBB airport. To their dismay, they discovered that the flight tickets were fraudulent, lacking any corresponding airline listed by airport authorities, as stated by a police officer.
The victims have implicated Saiful Islam’s wife and in-laws, accusing them of being accomplices in the elaborate ruse. They allege that the family members were also involved in the scam. Saiful Islam, the alleged fraudster, has reportedly absconded with a substantial sum of Rs 30 lakh, leaving the victims in financial distress and uncertainty.
Upon visiting Saiful Islam’s residence, the victims found that he had fled. Subsequently, they went to the in-laws’ house, where they were surprised to learn that the family denied any association with Saiful. The investigation into this fraudulent scheme is ongoing as authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
