Agartala: September 11. More than 30 persons were injured after a clash between Muslims and Tribal reportedly took place in the Modhho Muslim Para Rayer Bari area under the Killa police station in the Gomati district.
The violent clash took place centering on a purported land dispute in the area.While speaking with reports a person from a minority community told that more than 200 tribal reportedly came all of a sudden and attacked them with sharp weapons like dao, knives and etc after the minority people had started constructing a house.“During lockdown we have received an eviction notice to vacate the place in which we are living which is Modhho Muslim Para Rayer Bari area. At a time when people are not going out from Covid they have directed us to leave”, he said.
He however alleged that the evection notice was served from BJP.“After we received the eviction notice, we said where we will go in this covid situation. Then we have filed a case and since then they (tribal) are attacking on us almost every day”, the victims said.They however blamed the role of police and said infront of police the tribal has launched an attack on them with sharp weapons and also attacked them with sling shot.
“A large number of tribal arrived and unleashed an attack on us. They attacked with sharp weapon, entered in house and attacked on us, they attacked us with sling shot. They also set fire on our property. They attacked us when we are constructing houses. More than 200 people came and attacked us. In front of police they carried out such attacks on us. Police was playing a role of silent spectators”, the victims said.
While, the minorities also retaliated to save themselves and their properties following which many of tribal also injured.During the violence two police personnel also injured and one vehicle of Killa police station was set on fire.Source said that the area following which the clash took place in under forest land in which tribal mainly Jamatia and minority Muslims are living. However following direction of one BJP minister they are trying to oust the Muslim from the area and want to provide this lands to Jamatia.
