Agartala, 15th September 2026 : In a major success in the ongoing anti-drug drive in North Tripura, the North District Police, 28 Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) jointly foiled a suspected international drug trafficking operation in the Panisagar area. A huge consignment of yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around ₹40 crore, was seized during the operation. One truck driver has been arrested in connection with the case.
Panisagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kishlay Shishodia, while speaking to reporters, said that acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted an Assam-to-Agartala-bound Tata truck at the Panisagar naka point.
A thorough search of the vehicle was subsequently conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. During the search, the security personnel discovered a specially constructed concealed chamber inside the truck. Around 50 kg of yaba tablets, numbering approximately five lakh pieces, were recovered from the hidden compartment. The consignment is estimated to have an international market value of around ₹40 crore, police said.
The truck driver was initially detained and was subsequently formally arrested in connection with the seizure. Police said a case has been registered against the accused under the relevant legal provisions and necessary steps are being taken to produce him before the court.
The joint operation has created considerable sensation in the area and has been widely appreciated as a significant success by the North Tripura Police in their efforts to curb the trafficking of narcotic substances across state and international borders.
