Agartala, 30th December 2025: Tension has gripped the Manu Land Customs Station at the Indo-Bangladesh international border in Kailashahar after the ruling party’s Yuva morcha submitted a deputation to the District Magistrate demanding an immediate halt to import and export activities between India and Bangladesh.
Following the deputation, fear and uncertainty have spread among traders at the Manu Land Customs premises, with local residents expressing concern that the situation at the international border could spiral out of control at any moment.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday, December 24, protests were held in Kailashahar town by the Hindu Aikya Mancha against the killing of a Hindu citizen named Dipu Das in Bangladesh. A protest rally and public meeting were organized in the town. After the protest concluded, members of the organization erected bamboo barricades near the Manu Land Customs Station, adjacent to the R.K.I. School ground, demanding an indefinite suspension of cross-border trade.
However, the barricades were reportedly broken by unidentified persons under the cover of darkness. Subsequently, the Hindu Aikya Manch once again installed bamboo barricades at the same location. Later, the district administration removed the barricades and reopened the route for import-export activities.
The situation escalated further when the ruling party’s youth organization entered the fray. Under the leadership of Arup Dhar, President of the Unakoti District Committee of the Youth Morcha, party workers and supporters submitted a deputation to the District Magistrate of Unakoti, Dr. Tamal Majumder.
The five-member delegation included Arup Dhar, Bablu Deb (President of Chandipur Mandal Youth Morcha), youth leaders Ajay Dhar, Imran Ali, and Fuzail Ali.
Speaking to the media after submitting the deputation, Arup Dhar stated that repeated killings of Hindus by fundamentalists in Bangladesh, coupled with alleged anti-India rhetoric, cannot be tolerated while trade relations continue uninterrupted. He said the Youth Morcha has formally urged the District Magistrate in writing to immediately suspend import and export activities with Bangladesh.
Dhar further warned that if the administration fails to stop cross-border trade within the next 48 hours, the Youth Morcha will launch a large-scale movement across Kailashahar. Planned protests may include road blockades and a gherao of the District Magistrate’s office. He also cautioned that any deterioration in law and order arising from the agitation would be the responsibility of the administration.
Meanwhile, the local administration has deployed additional security forces at the Manu Land Customs Station to prevent any untoward incident. All eyes are now on the administration’s next move, as failure to act within the stipulated time could lead to serious unrest at the Indo-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar.
