5-day long district level handicrafts and handloom mela begins at Panisgar

Agartala, December 23, 2022: The auspicious opening ceremony of the five-day long district-level Handicrafts and Handloom Mela 2022-23 was held at Vivekananda Mukta Manch in Panisagar under North Tripura district on the evening of Thursday last.

MLA of Panisagar assembly constituency Binay Bhushan Das inaugurated the fair by lighting the lamp. Panisagar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Sanjay Das presided. Jubarajnagar MLA Malina Debnath, Uttar Tripura Zilla Parishad’s Sabhadipati Bhabatosh Das, SDM Subhash Acharya, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat Vice-Chairman Dhananjay Debnath, Industry Standing Committee Chairman Prashanta Debnath, Zilla Parishad member Moushumi Debnath, Panisagar Panchayat vice-chairman Lakshmikant Das were also present.

A total of twenty-five different clusters, Purbasa, textile industry cooperative societies, self-help groups participated in the handicraft and handloom fair. They have opened shops displaying various types of handicrafts made by them. Handicrafts are on the verge of extinction in today’s mechanized civilization.

This kind of fair is organized to save endangered arts and artists who are closely related to it. Cultural evenings will be held on the cultural stage every day in the center of the five-day long fair with the performances of cultural organizations from different areas of the district. Finally, at the end of the ceremony, the guests visited each handicraft stall.
