5 years without road and culvert: Mandwi villagers suffer amid authority apathy

Date:

Agartala, 22nd June 2026:   While there are grand talks of development nationwide, a grim reality persists in the Dinabandhu Nagar area under the 11-Mandwi Bazar assembly constituency. Local residents traveling from Dinabandhu Nagar Bhabachantai to Kamanmura do not even have a basic brick-soled road. For years, they have been forced to risk their lives commuting through a hazardous, muddy track on a daily basis.

Adding to their misery, a box culvert that once connected the stretch collapsed and was washed away by stream water nearly five years ago. Since then, it has completely vanished. Despite half a decade passing, the department concerned has taken no steps to build a new culvert or pave the road. Locals have openly expressed their anger against local MLA Swapna Debbarma and MDC Jagadish Dev Varma, accusing them of total indifference toward the village.

“The country talks about becoming a global leader, but even in 2026, our area feels like it belongs to another world. We have no proper roads and no drinking water,” said by a local resident.

Frustrated by the ongoing neglect, the aggrieved villagers finally spoke to the media to highlight their daily hardships. Along with the broken communication link, the area faces a severe crisis of clean drinking water. The residents have urgently appealed to the higher authorities to step in, look into their misery, and resolve these basic infrastructure issues immediately before an accident happens.
