Agartala, 13th June 2024:  Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath today flags off a train loaded with 600 kg of queen pineapple to Oman.

Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath today flagged off a train transporting 600 kg of Queen Pineapples bound for Oman. This marks part of a broader effort where 600 kg are destined for Oman, with negotiations ongoing for exports to Dubai (5 metric tons) and Holland (30 metric tons).

Underlining the progress since the BJP assumed office in 2018, Minister Nath highlighted the expansion of pineapple exports to Dubai, Qatar, and Bangladesh. Over the past five years, 33 metric tons of pineapples have been shipped internationally, while 12,500 metric tons have been supplied to Indian states. This initiative has significantly boosted farmers’ earnings, with pineapple prices rising from Rs. 18 to Rs. 32 per piece.

Moreover, the state’s agricultural diversification efforts have seen exports of other products such as jackfruits (4.4 metric tons), wood apple (257 metric tons), tamarind (397 metric tons), ginger (74 metric tons), and betel leaf (70 metric tons) to various countries and states. Pineapple cultivation has expanded dramatically from 595 hectares before 2018 to 5,654 hectares today, illustrating the sector’s robust growth and economic impact on Tripura’s farming community.
