7 Transgender Bangladeshi nationals held in Tripura

Agartala, 2nd August 2024:  Within the past 24 hours, seven transgender individuals, were detained at two separate locations in Tripura.

A Tripura Police official reported that during a routine vehicle check in Panisagar under the North District, seven individuals were detained on suspicion. “While inspecting a bus at the Panisagar Naka Point, we found seven individuals who appeared suspicious. Upon interrogation, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals. We also confiscated fake Aadhar and PAN cards they had created. They were traveling to Mumbai via Guwahati,” said the police official.

The detained transgender individuals are from Akhaura in Bangladesh and had crossed the border with the help of a smuggler.
