Agartala, 2nd August 2024: Assam Rifles has successfully seized contraband items, including cannabis and heroin, valued at approximately Rs 52.88 crores, from Tripura, Assam, and Manipur during the fiscal year 2023-24.
A press release from Assam Rifles reads that the operations, conducted in coordination with state agencies, led to the seizure of ganja/marijuana worth approximately Rs 52.88887 crores.
It said that major operations were undertaken to destroy cannabis plants worth crores of rupees, aligning with the Chief Minister’s vision of making Tripura “Nasha Mukt” (Drug-Free).
From Tripura alone, 6244.72 kg of cannabis and heroin worth Rs 30.29 crores were seized. In Assam, 1026.80 kg of narcotics worth Rs 18.49 crores were confiscated, while in Manipur, 487.087 grams valued at Rs 4.10 crores were seized.
The report also highlighted that over the past year, Assam Rifles organized 55 awareness lectures on drug abuse, reaching out to 1200 people across various locations. These lectures aimed to cultivate awareness about the social, mental, physical, and psychological effects of drug abuse. The lectures covered a range of topics, including the impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities, strategies for prevention and intervention, available treatment options, and recovery resources.
