Aadhaar enrollment for children under 5 launched at IGM

Date:

Agartala, 6th May 2026:  In a significant step toward strengthening digital identity coverage among young children, Aadhaar enrollment for children aged 0 to 5 years using the Child Enrollment Light Client (CELC) kit was officially launched today at IGM Hospital, Agartala.

The initiative was inaugurated by Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of Health Services, Government of Tripura. Speaking at the event, she emphasized that ensuring digital identity from birth is a crucial milestone. She noted that enabling Aadhaar enrollment directly at hospitals will reduce public inconvenience and help integrate newborns and young children more efficiently into various government welfare schemes.

Dr. Debbarma further highlighted that early Aadhaar registration will facilitate easier access to essential services such as healthcare, nutrition, education, and other government benefits right from birth.

The CELC kit, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is a modern Aadhaar enrollment system specifically designed for children aged 0–5 years. The technology enables fast and simplified enrollment directly at hospitals and health centers, reducing the need for parents or guardians to visit external enrollment centers.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Colonel Abhishek Kaushik, Director of UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati; P.K. Bora, Deputy Director of UIDAI Regional Office; Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Health Services; and Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Chief Medical Officer of West District.

At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Nirmal Sarkar, Medical Superintendent of IGM Hospital, expressed gratitude to all participants and extended congratulations for the successful launch.

During the inaugural enrollment, a four-month-old child named Anshibhika Dutta became the first beneficiary of the CELC-based Aadhaar registration at the hospital. Additionally, Aadhaar enrollment was completed for four more children during the event.

Authorities have confirmed that similar enrollment facilities have already been instructed to begin operations across other centers in the state, and multiple locations have started implementing the program from today.
