Agartala, 6th May 2026: A one-day awareness seminar focusing on senior citizen welfare and substance abuse prevention was organized today at Maharaja Bir Bikram College. The programme was jointly conducted by the college and the Department of Social Education and Social Welfare.
Titled “One-Day Sensitization-cum-Awareness Programme on Senior Citizen Issues and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” the seminar aimed to promote empathy towards elderly citizens while encouraging youth to stay away from substance abuse.
Biswajit Shil, Sabhadhipati of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Dipak Lal Saha, District Inspector of Social Education for West Tripura, was also present. Renowned social worker Malyaban Chakraborty and Advocate Puja Das participated as special guest speakers.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers stressed the importance of respecting and caring for senior citizens. They also highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and urged students to adopt healthy and responsible lifestyles.
Principal Dr. Arjun Gope and Dr. Nilima Biswas, Secretary of the Teachers’ Council, spoke on behalf of the college, expressing gratitude to all participants and reiterating the institution’s commitment to social awareness initiatives.
Students from the NSS and NCC wings, along with faculty members, played a key role in organizing and successfully conducting the seminar.
