Agartala, 28th May 2026: MLA Abhishek Deb Roy returned to the state on Thursday after being appointed as the President of the Tripura Pradesh BJP. His name was officially announced earlier in the day by the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He arrived in the state from Delhi on an afternoon flight and received a grand welcome from party workers and supporters at the airport.
Several senior leaders, including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, were present at the airport to greet the newly appointed state president with traditional ceremonial scarves.
Speaking to the media, Abhishek Deb Roy said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is different from other political parties and that he would sincerely fulfill the responsibility entrusted to him by the party. He emphasized that he does not view the post merely as a position, but as a responsibility to work collectively for building a stronger Tripura.
He appealed to the people of the state to cooperate in taking Tripura forward and said that the BJP always places the nation first. According to him, he would work to strengthen this organizational ideology among party members and the public.
From the airport, Abhishek Deb Roy proceeded to the BJP state headquarters, where he was felicitated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and former state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee with flower garlands.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that leadership changes are part of democratic tradition. He appreciated the contributions of former state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, stating that party workers always found support and guidance from him during difficult times. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Abhishek Deb Roy would successfully carry out his responsibilities and further strengthen the organization in the coming days.
Notably, the announcement of the new state BJP president came within 24 hours of the Chief Minister’s meeting with BJP national leader Nitin Nabin in Delhi, putting an end to speculation among party workers and supporters regarding the leadership change.
Rajib Bhattacharjee’s tenure as state BJP president had ended long ago, but he continued in the role until the new appointment was finalized.
Abhishek Deb Roy had previously served as the BJP Gomati district president before being elevated to the post of state president.
Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also congratulated the newly appointed president through social media.
Meanwhile, BJP also announced new presidents for three other states — Harsh Malhotra for Delhi, Archana Gupta for Haryana, and Keol Dhillon for Punjab.
