Abhoynagar Pond Renovation Nears Completion, Set to Open This Month

Date:

Agartala, 12th July 2026:   The renovation and beautification work of a pond located near Ward No. 11 office in the Abhaynagar area of the capital city, which had remained abandoned for nearly five decades, has reached its final stage. The project, undertaken by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), is expected to be opened for the public later this month.

After inspecting the project site on Sunday, AMC Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder said that the initiative was taken to transform the long-neglected and unused pond into a modern and aesthetically appealing public space. He stated that most of the work has already been completed, while the remaining tasks are being expedited.

The Mayor informed that if everything proceeds according to plan, the project will be formally inaugurated this month by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. Following the inauguration, the renovated site will be opened for public use.

Majumder further said that the beautification project would not only enhance the environmental appeal of the Abhaynagar area but also provide local residents with a clean and pleasant place for relaxation and recreation. He expressed hope that the rejuvenated water body would become one of the major attractions of the locality.

Local residents have also welcomed the initiative, stating that the restoration of the abandoned pond would improve the overall beauty of the area and create a new recreational and leisure spot for city dwellers.
