Agartala, 12th July 2026: The Tripura State Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has strongly opposed the government’s decision to deploy a large number of government school teachers for the upcoming Census, citing the severe shortage of teachers in the state’s schools.
In a press statement, the student organization urged the government to immediately reconsider the decision, arguing that it would further disrupt the already struggling education system.
According to SFI, government schools across Tripura are facing an acute shortage of teachers and inadequate infrastructure, resulting in serious disruptions to classroom teaching. The organization claimed that students in several schools have already been compelled to stage protests demanding the appointment of teachers.
Against this backdrop, SFI expressed concern over the government’s decision to engage nearly 9,000 teachers in Census-related work. The organization warned that assigning such a large number of teachers to non-teaching duties would significantly affect regular academic activities and have a direct impact on students’ learning.
SFI has demanded that the government withdraw or revise the decision in the interest of students. The organization also called upon students, teachers, and parents to unite and protest against the move.
