Agartala Jan 03: Raising numerous allegations including irregular payments of REGA work, tribal workers of Rajni Sardar Para ADC village in Kalyanpur locked the office on Tuesday.

Panchayat Secretary Narayan Dutta and other employees were kept locked inside the office for long time. The workers alleged that they were made to work for 15 days in the area, but many who did not work also got money whereas the real workers were deprived.Agitating REGA workers said, “Only 26 people among us worked for 15 days under Rega but the authorities paid 32 people whereas 6 people did not work at all”.

They questioned how did people get money without working?Alleging favouritism and irregularities the protesting workers further added, “We do not get the real amount allocated by the government for REGA work and also wages are pending”.

They calculated that they received Rs 159 instead of Rs 212 per day in their account. Because their due money was given to six people who did not work at all. However, Panchayat Secretary Narayan Dutta said that all work is done through geo tagging and photographs are clicked during work

He added, “All the allegations are false”.Finally, Panchayat Extension Officer Kaushik Debbarma went to the spot and talked to the workers. He assured the workers that the whole incident will be officially investigated. Engineer Devkumar Jamatia associated with this work will also be spoken to in this regard. He also admitted that the workers were given Rs 159 instead of Rs 212 in their account for 15 days work, totalling 2385 rupees.Later the agitating tribal workers lifted the protest after receiving assurances from the concerned authorities.
