ABRSM gives deputation to West DM, appeals to centre for safeguards for teachers appointed before 2010

Date:

Agartala, 18th June 2026:   The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), Tripura Prant, has approached the Union Government seeking special legislative and policy measures to protect teachers appointed before 2010 amid concerns arising from the NCTE’s Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) notification and the recent Supreme Court order related to the issue.

Through a representation submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister via the District Magistrate of West Tripura on June 18, 2026, ABRSM highlighted the concerns of teachers appointed before August 23, 2010. The organisation stated that these teachers were appointed under the rules, qualifications and recruitment procedures existing at that time and their service should be recognised accordingly.

ABRSM argued that applying later-introduced eligibility requirements to teachers already serving for years may create uncertainty and affect their professional security. The organisation underlined the valuable contribution, experience and dedication of such teachers in strengthening the education system.

While acknowledging the Supreme Court’s judgment and stating that judicial decisions must be respected, ABRSM pointed out that the government and Parliament have the authority to bring policy or legislative solutions in the larger public interest.

The organisation has demanded permanent exemption from TET for pre-2010 teachers, protection of seniority, promotions and other service benefits, along with clear directions to states and Union Territories.

ABRSM stated that protecting the interests of these teachers would help maintain stability in the education sector and boost the confidence of educators who have served for decades.
