Tension Erupts Between BJP and Tipra Motha in Poangbari Village, Situation Brought Under Control

Date:

Agartala, 18th June 2026:   Tensions broke out once again between BJP and Tipra Motha workers in the Poangbari village area under Karbuk block on Thursday morning. The situation escalated briefly but was later brought under control following swift police intervention.

According to reports, around 10 a.m., a heated confrontation occurred between supporters of the two parties when Tipra Motha workers arrived at the panchayat office to submit a deputation to the Panchayat Secretary and Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS). The party alleged that residents of Poangbari ADC village have been deprived of several government schemes and panchayat facilities, including MGNREGA work, for a long time.

However, BJP workers reportedly objected to the submission of the deputation, which led to an argument between both sides and quickly escalated tensions in the area.

On receiving information, a large police force along with TSR personnel from Chelagang police station reached the spot and intervened to control the situation. Officials later held discussions with both parties, restoring order in the area.

Following this, Tipra Motha representatives submitted their demand memorandum to Officer-in-Charge Babul Das, who assured that it would be forwarded to Karbuk Block Development Officer Subrajit Paul.

Later, Tipra Motha held a press conference in which party leaders claimed that they had previously faced similar obstruction nearly two months ago while attempting to submit a deputation. They questioned why their democratic activities were being repeatedly hindered and why residents were being deprived of basic government services.

The party also raised allegations of bias against Panchayat Secretary Paritosh Das, GRS Sajal Sarkar, and former GRS Manoranjan Chakma. They demanded that government officials perform their duties impartially and also alleged irregularities and corruption in various panchayat activities. At present, the situation in the area remains under control of the local administration.
